Follow Me

Writer's Note: I'll probably be somewhat regular on here for a short amount of time then the posts will be more irregularly posted but that's how it goes. Here's one part of two that I wrote after hearing a bible passage. Neither are going to be edited for now and maybe never. It all depends. They're not religious and neither am I but we can't control where inspiration comes from, isn't that right? I've decided to post the vignette first. Enjoy

"Follow me," he said, two fingers curling up and down.

"But to where?" I asked, confused. A wall of darness lay before me, seemingly solid. I stared into it and it stared back. My pulse beat in my ears, in my fingertips, in my chest. A quick, fluttering rhythm reminscent of a hummingbird's wings.

"Follow me."

"Why? What's on the other side?" I asked. He shook his head and twitched his fingers again. I could feel my face frozen in uncertainty. Who was he to expect this?

"Follow me."

"Are we running to something? Away?" His expression never changed from the serene look plastered there, a half smile tugging at his lips as he considered me. His hand never shook.

"Follow me."

"Jesus Christ why won't you just fucking tell me? Do you have somebody after you? Or do you need to meet someone? And what is this?" I felt the anger rise like bubbles in my chest to pop in my throat. "What the hell are you doing! Give me some fucking answers!" He just smiled wider.

"Follow me."

"Do I trust you is the question I guess. Do I trust you?" I considered his sedate eyes, his pale face against the deepest black backdrop.

"Fine. Fine. I'll follow."

I took his hand and trusted.
